I have always enjoyed the beauty, mystery and potential of art.  I never saw myself as an artist and it was with hesitation
and fear that I first picked up a paintbrush and I dipped it in thalo blue and tried my hand at painting a blue sky.  Almost two
full years later, I can’t believe it took me thirty-two years to start painting!

I draw my inspiration from my dreams, hopes and wishes in most of my paintings than I do from my own life.  I see the
world in bright colours, simple and vibrant.  This, to me, represents the hope that each one of us will lead a good and
happy life to our own standards.  Of course, there is also an element of darkness and despair beneath the bright colours
because real life is not always experienced through rose coloured glasses.

When I start a painting, I am not rigid and unbending in the subject matter.  As I work, I try to remain receptive to ideas for
improving the piece I am working on or better yet, a new piece.  All of my favourite pieces have evolved as I worked on
other paintings.  I love that feeling – art inspiring art.

In the beginning of my painting career I purposely tried to stay away from my migrant roots.  I had a need to use other
influences and not be labeled a particular type of artist, like a Mexican artist.  I mistakenly thought that this in some way
would stump my growth as an artist.  The pieces that have been my favourites are the ones that I have done without any
filters and consideration as to whether I would be classified as a particular type of artist.  It has dawned on me to let the art
speak for itself.

At the moment, I am working on different pieces of work in varying styles.  There is a little bit of Dali, Picasso, Monet, Van
Gogh, and David in my pieces infused with my own developing style.   I have decided to do commissions and in between
them paint from the depths of my soul – to create art that captures a slice of my life, or my view of it.

I have studied at the Crealde School of Art, Osceola Centre For The Arts and Valencia CC.
